Do you ever wonder what the difference is between a snow flurry and a snow shower? Flurries bring to mind a bunch of tiny snowflakes scrambling to make themselves look like more than they are. That what was happening the other day as I walked through the woods. I was looking for a leaning tree that a walker had brought to our attention. As a general rule, we don't like to leave the trees leaning. This one was still alive though. It was stable, albeit at a 45 degree angle. It seemed safe enough to me and I hate cutting down trees that don't need to come down. So, I was able to enjoy my walk through the snow flurries. I have been anxiously awaiting a significant amount of snow since then. I was very happy when I woke up to some yesterday. The only problem is, there isn't enough to groom the ski trail! It is mighty fine for stomping through though. It has a nice crunching sound and everything looks so clean. There is nothing like a good blanket of snow to make everything look brand new. I can just imagin God creating the earth and then covering all the northerly parts in a beautiful blanket of sparkling white. Just because he could.

I love how my garden looks in the winter. The coneflowers and the yarrow are so stoic with their little hats of white. And everything looks so patient. The plants are just waiting their turn for glory because they know it will be here soon enough. My wheelbarrow should probably not be there, but what's a little more rust? The girls could go for a ride in the snow just as easily as they could through the grass. Do you suppose the garden knows that it's the snow that brings it life in the spring? Without the water of the snow melt, spring would not be so glorious as it is.
I'm looking forward to more snow. March snow is the best for snowshoeing and it makes for great pictures. It's also the most likely to snow you in. There is nothing like being snowed in. Hot chocolate and some good books and just hang out with kids. Just because you can.
